Short answer: A business can’t delete a review on its Facebook Page. If the review breaks Meta’s Community Standards, report it from your Page’s reviews and Meta decides whether to remove it. Reviews that are only a star rating can’t be reported. You can turn recommendations off, which removes the rating and every review from your Page. The person who wrote a review can change who sees it.
How reviews work on a Facebook Page
Facebook calls them recommendations. A customer opens your Page, clicks Reviews, answers Yes or No to recommending it and can add text. Your rating comes from those reviews.
Meta says a Page only shows a rating with recommendations turned on, and may show none until it has at least 5 reviews. Only public reviews count toward the score. Meta also says it does not check that reviewers bought or used what they review, and it removes reviews that break its spam policies.
| The review | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Text that breaks the Community Standards | Report it from your Page’s reviews. Meta reviews the report and may remove it |
| A star rating with no text | Nothing: Meta says star-only recommendations can’t be reported |
| A fair negative review | It stays. You can’t edit or remove it, and on business reviews from ads you can reply |
| Every review and the rating | Turn recommendations off, and Meta removes them from the Page |
| A review that disappeared | Meta may have removed it, or its author changed who can see it |

How to report a review
Report a review only when it breaks the Community Standards, for example spam or content Facebook does not allow. From your Page:
- Below the Page’s cover photo, under Details, click Reviews.
- Click See all next to Recent reviews and find the review.
- Click Options in the top right corner of the review.
- Select Report post.
- Follow the steps on the screen. Meta reviews the report and may remove the review if it doesn’t follow its standards.
A review that is only a star rating can’t be reported. If a review you saw before is gone, Meta may have removed it, or the person who posted it may have changed its audience.
Turn reviews off, or back on
With recommendations on, anyone logged into Facebook can leave one on your Page and see your rating and the public reviews. Meta adds that recommendations may make your Page easier to find in Facebook search. Turning them off removes the rating and the reviews from your Page.
To change it, switch into your Page, click its profile photo in the top right and go to Settings & privacy, then Settings. Click Page and tagging and turn Allow others to view and leave reviews on your Page? on or off.
If your Page already had reviews, Meta turned recommendations on for you. Turning them off hides your good reviews too, so it rarely pays off for a business that has more good reviews than bad ones.
When a review is fair
A fair negative review stays. Meta’s help on business reviews, the ones customers leave after buying from an ad, says a business can reply to them but not edit or remove them. A short, calm reply shows future customers how you handle a problem. Our guide on how to respond to negative reviews has reply templates written for Google that work here too.
What the person who wrote it can do
Only the author can change their review. Meta says they can change its audience after posting by selecting the post and then Edit privacy, so a review can stop being public.
Some reviews come from customers who bought after seeing an ad. Meta says the author of one of those business reviews can edit or delete it at any time in the Facebook app for iPhone or Android. The path is Activity Log, then Interactions and Reviews, then Options on the review and Delete Review. Businesses can’t edit it, but they can report it.
If a customer offers to change a review after you fix their problem, let them do it themselves. Never offer anything in exchange, and don’t review your own Page: Meta says people who help manage a Page should not leave it a recommendation.
Before you act on a review
- The review breaks the Community Standards, not just your patience.
- It has text: star-only reviews can’t be reported.
- For fair reviews, a short and calm answer wherever Facebook lets you reply.
- You know what turning recommendations off costs: your good reviews go too.
- Nobody who manages the Page reviews it.
RememberYou can’t delete a Facebook review. Report the ones that break the Community Standards and answer the fair ones where Facebook lets you. Turn recommendations off only if you accept losing the good reviews and the rating with them.

Quick answers about Facebook reviews
Can a business delete a Facebook review?
No. Meta’s help gives a business two options for a review on its Page: report it if it breaks the Community Standards, or turn recommendations off, which removes the rating and every review from the Page. On business reviews left after an ad purchase, it can also reply.
How do I turn off reviews on my Facebook Page?
Switch into your Page, open Settings & privacy, then Settings, and click Page and tagging. Turn off Allow others to view and leave reviews on your Page? Meta removes the rating and the reviews from the Page while it stays off.
Why can’t I report a review on my Page?
Meta says recommendations that only include a star rating can’t be reported. If a review has text that breaks the Community Standards, report it from Reviews: open its options and choose Report post.
Why doesn’t my Page show a rating?
A Page shows a rating only with recommendations turned on, and it may have none until it gets at least 5 reviews. Only public reviews count toward the score, and Meta says the review count can change depending on who views the Page.
Does Facebook check that reviewers were customers?
No. Meta says it does not verify that people bought the product or used the service they review or recommend on Facebook Pages. Reviews that break its spam policies are removed, and the rating can change when that happens.
