Short answer: You create a Facebook business Page from your personal Facebook account. On a computer, click Pages on the left, then Create Page, choose Public Page and add the name and category. Facebook then asks for contact info, hours, photos and an action button. Pages are free, and once yours is live, give a second person you trust full control.

The button names in this guide are Meta’s own English labels, so you can match them to your screen.

A Page is not a profile

Meta says Facebook Pages are for businesses, brands, organizations and public figures to share updates and connect with people. A profile is the personal side of Facebook, and Meta says profiles are best for personal use, not for businesses or organizations.

The two are tied together in one way: you need a personal profile to create a Page or help manage one. Meta also says information from your profile won’t appear on your Page unless you share it there; the two are considered separate.

  • A Page is public. Profiles can be private, Pages can’t, and Meta notes that Google may index your Page.
  • A Page is free. The only feature of Pages that isn’t free is advertising.
  • A Page is what you advertise from. Meta says you need a Page to advertise on Facebook.

There is a third option, pro mode, a setting on a personal profile that lets anyone follow your public posts. Meta says that if your goal is to represent your business, brand or product, you should create a Page.

Only official representatives can create a Page for a business. Someone who isn’t an official representative and wants a space for fans of a topic can create a Facebook group instead, Meta says.

What to have ready

The setup takes a few minutes if you have these at hand. Most of them can be changed later. The name has the strictest rules, and Facebook may reject one that breaks them.

  • The name. Meta asks for names that are simple, specific and grammatically correct, like “Hungry Bear Coffee”. It rejects the word “official” on an unofficial Page, all capitals except acronyms, symbols such as ®, slogans and any variation of “Facebook” or “Meta”. A name also can’t be only a general word (“Pizza”) or only a place (“New York”).
  • Up to three categories. Pick the most specific ones. Meta’s example: a local sweet shop should choose “bakery” or “dessert shop”, not “local business”. Your main category shows below the Page name and helps people find you in Facebook search.
  • A short bio. Meta suggests one or two sentences on what your business offers. Longer history belongs in the About section.
  • Contact details. Phone, website and email, plus the address and hours if customers visit you.
  • Two images. A profile picture (many businesses use their logo) and a cover photo of your store, your products or a current campaign.

For the images, Meta gives these sizes:

  • Profile picture: 320 by 320 pixels for best quality. It’s cropped to a circle and shows at 176 by 176 pixels on computers and 196 by 196 on smartphones.
  • Cover photo: at least 400 by 150 pixels. It loads fastest as an sRGB JPG file that’s 851 by 315 pixels and under 100 kilobytes.
  • Logo or text in the image: Meta says a PNG file may give a better result.

Keep the left side of the cover photo free of anything you need people to see. Meta says the profile picture partly covers it, and the cover can be cropped to fit different screens.

Create the Page on a computer

These are the steps in Meta’s Help Center for a computer, in the order the screens appear.

  1. Start. Log into Facebook and click Pages on the left, then Create Page.
  2. Choose the type. Select Public Page, click Next, then Get Started.
  3. Name it. Add the Page name and category, an optional bio, and click Create Page.
  4. Add the details. Contact info, location and hours, then Next.
  5. Add the images. Upload the profile and cover photos, edit the action button and click Next.
  6. WhatsApp. Connect your WhatsApp to the Page, or click Skip and do it later.
  7. Finish. Invite friends to connect with the Page if you want, choose your notification settings and click Done.

The Page now exists, but you’re still browsing as yourself. To act as the business, click your profile photo in the top right, then See all profiles, and select the Page. Meta calls this switching into the Page, and the steps for the Page’s settings start there.

Create the Page on your phone

In the Facebook app, the Help Center gives this path for Android and iPhone:

  1. Open the menu. Tap Menu in the top left, then Pages.
  2. Create. Tap Create in the top left, select Create a new Page and tap Next.
  3. Name and category. Add the Page name, tap Next, select a category and tap Create.
  4. Details and images. Add a bio, contact info and location, then the profile and cover photos, tapping Next after each screen.
  5. Finish. Invite friends if you want, set your notifications and tap Done.

Meta’s Business Help Center describes a longer version of the same path. After Create, it adds a Professional option, then Create new profile or Page and Public Page, before the same details and photos. Follow the screens your app shows you; the result is the same Page.

On an iPad, the Help Center places Menu in the bottom right instead.

What to fill in first

Meta’s setup list for a business Page starts with the visuals and the basics. Add the action button and a username, and work through them in this order:

  1. Profile picture and cover photo, if you skipped them during setup.
  2. Contact info. Phone, website and email, so people can reach you from the Page.
  3. Location and hours, if you have a physical place where customers come.
  4. The action button. The button at the top of your Page that sends visitors to do one thing, such as visit your website or call your store.
  5. A username. It shows below the Page name and in the Page’s web address (facebook.com/username).
  6. The About section. When you started, what you specialize in, what you stand for.

To add or change the action button on a computer, switch into the Page, click Options, then Add action button or Edit action button. Select a button, click Next, follow the instructions and click Save. You need Facebook access to the Page for this (more on access below).

The username is set from a computer. Switch into the Page, click its profile picture in the top right, then Settings & privacy > Settings > Page setup > Name, and click Edit next to the username.

Meta warns that newly created Pages may not be able to create a username right away, and that a username may be removed because of inactivity.

The Page’s profile also has sections for services, links, and details such as price range and ratings. Meta notes that this layout isn’t available to everyone yet, so your Page may show fewer fields.

Who manages the Page

Meta’s Help Center names three kinds of access you can give the people who help you:

  • Facebook access, with full or partial control. The person can switch into the Page and manage content, messages, comments, ads, insights and events. With full control they can also change every setting, give or remove anyone’s access and delete the Page.
  • Task access. The person manages content, messages, ads and insights from tools such as Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager, but can’t switch into the Page on Facebook.
  • Community Manager access. Only for moderating the chat of the Page’s live streams.

Full control is the same access you have. Meta says a person with it can remove anyone from the Page, including you. So give it to someone you trust, and make sure it never sits with a single person: Meta says a Page with no one holding full control is automatically deactivated and scheduled for deletion.

Someone who only posts and answers messages for you doesn’t need full control. Task access covers that work.

Pages in a business portfolio work differently. A business portfolio holds your business assets, such as your Page, your Instagram account and your ad accounts, together with the people who can use them. Meta Business Suite, Meta’s free tool for managing Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp in one place, needs one.

For a Page inside a portfolio, Meta names three levels instead:

  • Partial access (business tools only). Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager, without switching into the Page.
  • Partial access (business tools and Facebook). The same, plus switching into the Page on Facebook.
  • Full control. Everything, including the Page settings and who has access.

You assign them in Meta Business Suite on a computer, under Settings, then Pages, the Page, and Assign people.

If an agency will help you, agree first on who owns the Page, the Instagram account and the ad account. Our article on what social media management costs lists what to settle before you hand over access.

Connect Instagram and WhatsApp

Both connections start from the same menu. Switch into the Page, click its profile picture in the top right, then Settings & privacy > Settings, and under Permissions click Linked accounts.

  • Instagram. Click Instagram, then Connect account, and follow the steps.
  • WhatsApp. Click WhatsApp, select your country code, enter your WhatsApp Business number and click Send WhatsApp code.

If your Instagram account is personal, Meta says you’ll be asked to switch it to a professional account during the linking, and a professional account is public. Meta’s Business Help Center also says that once the two are connected, anyone with access to either the Page or the Instagram account can manage both. Decide who should have access before you link them.

When you connect from the Instagram app instead, Meta asks for a professional Instagram account, full control of the Page, and both assets in the same business portfolio.

Once WhatsApp is linked, Meta says updates made on Facebook appear on WhatsApp, and that people with task access to the Page can change its business contact info. If you disconnect it later, any ads that click to WhatsApp are paused.

The blue badge: Meta Verified for business

You don’t need a badge to have a working Page. The verified badge for businesses comes with Meta Verified for businesses, a paid monthly or annual subscription. Meta lists the badge, impersonation protection and enhanced support among its benefits.

  • Plans. Meta Verified Business Standard, Plus, Premium and Max, each adding benefits to the one before.
  • What can be verified. A Facebook business Page, an Instagram professional business profile and a WhatsApp business profile: up to two that belong to the same business portfolio, or three from the Facebook mobile app or Meta Business Suite on a computer.
  • Security. Advanced Protection has to be turned on for that business portfolio, and it can’t be turned off while the subscription is active.
  • Review. After you apply, Meta’s review can take up to three business days.

Meta’s help pages, read October 26, 2026, don’t publish a price. They say the price depends on the plan you choose, that plans and benefits may vary by region, and that a discount may apply when you verify two assets together.

If Facebook won’t let you create the Page

Meta’s troubleshooting page lists the usual causes:

  • The account. Your profile needs to be in good standing and verified with an email address or phone number. New accounts, or accounts with restrictions, may not be able to create Pages.
  • The name. Names with symbols or unusual capitalization, or names that break Meta’s policies, may be rejected.
  • Too many attempts. Messages such as “You can’t create more Pages at this time” mean you reached the limit for that period, so try again later.
  • Technical issues. Try another browser or device, clear the browser cache and cookies, or update the app.

Once the Page is live, you can advertise from it. Our article on how much Facebook ads cost gives what a lead costs by industry. Our Meta Ads service runs Facebook and Instagram campaigns for you.

RememberCreate the Page from your personal profile (Pages > Create Page > Public Page), with a plain name and up to three specific categories. Add contact info, hours, both photos and an action button, then give full control to a second person you trust so the Page never depends on one account.

Before you call the Page done, check:

  • The name follows Meta’s rules: no slogan, no symbols, no all caps.
  • The main category is the most specific one that fits.
  • Phone, website, address and hours match your website.
  • The profile picture reads well in a small circle.
  • The action button points where you want customers to go.
  • At least two trusted people have full control.

Quick answers

Is a Facebook business Page free?

Yes. Meta says Pages are free, and the only feature of a Page that isn’t free is advertising. Posting, messages, events, appointments and insights cost nothing. Meta Verified, the subscription that adds the verified badge, is a separate paid service, and you don’t need it to run a Page.

Will my personal profile show on my business Page?

No. You need a personal profile to create a Page, but Meta says information from your profile won’t appear on the Page unless you share it there. The profile and the Page are separate. When you switch into the Page, your posts, comments and messages go out as the business.

What size should the profile picture and cover photo be?

Meta recommends a profile picture of 320 by 320 pixels, which it crops to a circle. The cover photo must be at least 400 by 150 pixels and loads fastest as an sRGB JPG of 851 by 315 pixels under 100 kilobytes. For a logo or text, Meta says PNG may look better.

What happens if the only person managing the Page leaves?

Meta says a Page must always have at least one person with full control. If no one has it, the Page is automatically deactivated and scheduled for deletion. Give full control to a second person you trust, and give task access to people who only post or answer messages.

How do I get the blue check on my business Page?

Through Meta Verified for businesses, a paid monthly or annual subscription. You pick a plan, choose the Page (and, if you want, an Instagram or WhatsApp profile in the same business portfolio), set up payment and verify your business. Meta’s review can take up to three business days, and its help pages don’t list a price.
