Short answer: In Meta’s help, a Page admin is someone with Facebook access with full control. To add one, switch into your Page and open Settings, then Page setup and Page access. Next to People with Facebook access, click Add New, choose the person and give them full control. They accept the invitation from their email or notifications.
What an admin is on a Facebook Page now
Meta’s help describes two kinds of access for managing a Page: Facebook access, with full or partial control, and task access. Giving someone full control gives them the same access as you. Meta spells out what that means: they can add people or take anyone off the Page, you included, and they can delete it.
| Access | What the person can do |
|---|---|
| Facebook access with full control | All that partial control allows, plus the Page settings, giving or removing other people’s access, and deleting the Page |
| Facebook access with partial control | Acts as the Page on Facebook: posts, comments, the inbox, events, ads, insights and a linked Instagram account. No settings and no access changes |
| Task access | Handles posts, messages, community activity, ads and insights from Meta’s business tools, but cannot act as the Page on Facebook |
Access levels from Meta’s help on Page access.
A Page in a business portfolio has its own levels and is managed from Meta Business Suite. That case is further down.
How to add an admin to your Page
You need Facebook access with full control yourself, and you manage access from inside the Page. On a computer:
- Log into Facebook. From your profile photo at the top right, open See all profiles and pick the Page.
- Now acting as the Page, click its profile picture at the top right to open it. Then go to Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Click Page setup, then Page access. Next to People with Facebook access, click Add New.
- Click Next, type the person’s name or email address and click their name. To give full control, select the person to allow it. For partial control, leave that unselected. Then click Give Access.
- Type your Facebook password and click Confirm. Meta emails the person an invitation to accept.
Give full control only to people you would trust with the business itself.
Task access for an agency or a freelancer
Someone who only posts or runs your ads does not need to switch into the Page. With task access, they work from Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager, and you turn on only the features they need.
The steps are the same up to Page access. Next to People with task access, click Add New, choose the person, turn on the features they will manage and click Give Access.
If an agency helps you, the Page should stay in your business’s name. Our guide on how to create a Facebook business page covers who should own it from day one.
How the person accepts the invitation
Meta sends the invitation by email or as a notification. The person clicks Review Invite, then Next and Accept.
If they are not friends with the admin who invited them, Meta says they have to accept before they can open the Page. When a new admin says they can’t see it, this is the first thing to check.
How to remove an admin or change someone’s access
Go back to Page access. Next to the person, click Options, then Remove access. Meta sends them an email saying their access was removed.
To change what someone with task access can do, click Options, then Edit access, turn the features on or off and click Update Access.
Removing another person with full control may need their approval. Meta says that if the request is not acted on within 30 days, it may be approved automatically.
Pages in a business portfolio
If the Page belongs to a business portfolio, its access is managed from the portfolio in Meta Business Suite. You need full access to the Page or to the portfolio. On a computer:
- Go to Meta Business Suite and click Settings.
- Under Profiles, click Pages and select the Page.
- Click Assign people and select the person.
- Choose partial access (business tools only), partial access (business tools and Facebook) or full access, then click Assign.
The person has to be in the portfolio first. If they are not, you can ask for them to be invited, and someone with full access to the portfolio approves it.
Keep at least one person with full control at all times. Meta says a portfolio Page left without one is deactivated automatically, and Meta schedules it for deletion.
When the admin is gone
If you lost access, someone who manages the Page may have removed you. Meta’s advice is to ask a person with full control to add you back. You can also contact current and former employees or contractors who had access.
If a business account owns the Page and you have full access, open Page access and, under Business Account access, click Request release. The request has 30 days to be approved or declined. Once approved, the Page leaves the business account after a grace period of 72 hours.
If you think the Page was hacked, Meta has a separate recovery process for Pages.
Before you give anyone access
- Two people from your business with full control, so losing one of them never locks you out.
- Agencies and freelancers with partial control or task access.
- The Page and the ad account in your business’s name.
- Each invitation accepted, and the person listed in Page access.
- Access reviewed when someone leaves the business.
RememberFull control is what people mean by admin: that person can remove you and delete the Page. Add people from Page access, give agencies partial control or task access, and keep two trusted people with full control.

Quick answers about Facebook Page admins
How do I add an admin to my Facebook Page?
Switch into the Page, open Settings & privacy, then Settings, Page setup and Page access. Next to People with Facebook access, click Add New, pick the person, select them for full control and click Give Access. They accept the invitation from their email or notifications.
What is the difference between full control and partial control?
Both work inside the Page on Facebook: posts, comments, the inbox, events, ads and insights. Only full control reaches the Page settings, other people’s access and deleting the Page. Full control also lets that person take you off the Page.
Why can’t my new admin see the Page?
Meta sends the invitation by email or as a notification, and the person has to accept it: Review Invite, then Next and Accept. If they are not friends with the admin who invited them, they cannot open the Page until they accept.
How do I remove an admin from a Facebook Page?
In Page access, click Options next to the person, then Remove access, and Meta emails them. If that person also has full control, they may need to approve the request. Meta says it may be approved automatically after 30 days without an answer.
What happens if nobody has full control of a Page?
Meta says a Page needs at least one person with Facebook access with full control to stay active. For portfolio Pages, its help adds that a Page left without anyone in full control is deactivated, and Meta schedules it for deletion.
