Short answer: A Pinterest business account is free and gives you Pinterest Analytics and the option to run ads. Convert your personal account in Settings, under Account management, or create a new one with an email that isn’t in use on Pinterest. Then claim your website so your Pins link back to your profile.
What a business account adds
Pinterest says a business account is free and gives you analytics on your Pins and the ability to run ads. Personal and business accounts are similar, but a business account adds the Pinterest Business Hub and Pinterest Analytics.
There are two ways to get one: create a new business account, or convert your personal account. Business accounts are public on Pinterest, so a private personal account has to be public before you convert it. Your Pins and followers stay the same.
If your personal account is linked to another Pinterest account, you have to unlink it before converting. Pinterest no longer lets you link a personal account to a business account.
How to convert your personal account on a computer
- Log into your personal account and click the more options icon at the bottom left of your screen.
- Select Settings.
- Click Account management on the left of the screen.
- Find Convert to a business account, then click Convert account.
- Fill out the fields to Build your profile, then click Next.
- Fill out the fields to Describe your business, then click Next.
- Select if you want to run ads, click Next and choose where you’d like to start.
To create a new business account instead, sign up with an email that isn’t already in use on Pinterest. If you set it up as an employee or an agency partner, Pinterest recommends your professional email and your own name, which helps the owner know who has access.
On the profile, enter your business name under Name. Your bio, under About, can have up to 500 characters, and people who visit your profile see it.
Claim your website
Claiming your website shows you how often your content is shared on Pinterest. Whenever an image from your claimed site is saved, your profile picture appears alongside the Pin, the Pin links to your profile and people see the option to follow you.
To claim a site you must own the domain, subdomain or subpath and be able to edit its source code. That leaves out most social accounts and shops on marketplaces like Etsy, eBay and Amazon. A website can only be claimed by one Pinterest account.
| Method | What you do | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| HTML tag | Copy the tag from Pinterest into the head section of your site’s code | You can remove it once the site is claimed |
| HTML file | Download the file from Pinterest and upload it to the root folder of your web server | A file in a subfolder can’t be read |
| DNS TXT record | Copy the TXT record from Pinterest into your website’s DNS records | Pinterest gives you a personalized record |
| Google Merchant Center | Connect the Merchant Center account that holds your product data | Only available to some accounts |
Our own summary of the Pinterest Business help page on claiming a website, read on November 6, 2026.
Start in Settings: click Link to Pinterest on the left, then Claim next to Websites. Pinterest checks for the tag or the file automatically. If you pick the TXT record, our guide to DNS explains where those records live.
Rich Pins for products and articles
Rich Pins sync information from your site automatically. Product rich Pins show up to date pricing, availability and product information. Article rich Pins add the headline, the description and the author, and recipe rich Pins add the ingredients and the cook time.
They work through tags on your pages, and it may take up to 24 hours for the content from your site to sync. Pinterest only shows product information on a rich Pin when the product is in stock and meets its guidelines. Shops hosted on Etsy or eBay don’t need any markup: new Pins from those sites get product information within 24 hours. Recipe Pins can read Schema.org markup, which our guide to structured data explains.
What Pinterest Analytics shows
The analytics Overview page shows your overall performance, performance over time, top boards and top Pins from the last 30 days. Pinterest notes that its real-time metrics are estimates and can change.
Every Pin, image or video, has the same core metrics: impressions, saves, Pin clicks, follows and outbound clicks. Outbound clicks are the actions that lead people to a destination off Pinterest, such as your site. They count from the date the link is added.
You can look at custom date ranges for the past year and a half, and export what you filter as a CSV file. To see those visits in Google Analytics too, tag the link in each Pin as our guide to UTM parameters shows.
Before you start pinning for your business
- You converted your personal account or created one with an unused email.
- Your profile shows your business name and a bio.
- Your website is claimed with one of the four methods.
- Product or article pages have the tags rich Pins need.
- The link in each Pin is tagged, so Google Analytics can see the visits.
- You know where to read impressions, saves and outbound clicks.

Quick answers about Pinterest business accounts
Is a Pinterest business account free?
Yes. Pinterest says a business account is free, and it gives you analytics on your Pins and the ability to run ads. Personal and business accounts are similar, but a business account adds the Pinterest Business Hub and Pinterest Analytics.
Will I lose my Pins if I convert to a business account?
No. Pinterest says your Pins and followers stay the same when you convert. Business accounts are public, so a private personal account has to be public first, and a personal account linked to another account has to be unlinked.
Can I claim an Etsy or Amazon shop on Pinterest?
Usually not. To claim a website you must own the domain, subdomain or subpath and be able to edit its source code. Most shops on marketplaces like Etsy, eBay and Amazon can’t be claimed.
What are outbound clicks in Pinterest Analytics?
Outbound clicks count the times people take an action that leads them to a destination off Pinterest, such as your website. Pinterest measures them starting from the date the link is added to the Pin.
How long do rich Pins take to show my site’s information?
Pinterest says it may take up to 24 hours for the content from your site to sync to your rich Pin. After that, article and recipe rich Pins update on their own when you edit the page on your site.
