Short answer: On a computer, switch into your Facebook Page and open Ads center. Choose Advertise, then Boost Facebook content, and pick the post you want with Boost post. Set the goal and the audience, how long it runs, how much it spends a day and where it shows. Then check the payment method and click Publish. A boosted post is an ad: it goes through review and your bill lists it as one.

Boosted posts: what they are and when to boost

Boosting turns a post you already published on your Page into an ad. Meta treats it apart from a new ad, which is built from creative that never ran on your Page. A boost can bring you more messages, video views, leads or calls, and it can reach people who may like your business but don’t follow you yet.

A good candidate is a post that already got many comments, likes and shares: Meta says that likely means it resonated with your audience. If it keeps doing well after the boost, you can boost it again.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “About boosted posts”, read November 2, 2026.

Before you boost

  • A Facebook Page for your business.
  • Access to it. You need Facebook access to the Page, or task access to Ads. Our guide on how to add an admin to a Facebook Page explains how that access is given.
  • For Meta Business Suite, the Page has to be in your business portfolio, with Page access that lets you advertise. See how to create a Facebook Business Manager.
  • A payment method. It is the last setting you add or review before you publish.

How to boost a post from your Page

  1. Log in to Facebook on a computer.
  2. Click your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Switch into the Page you want to boost a post from.
  4. Click Ads center on the left.
  5. Click Advertise.
  6. Select Boost Facebook content.
  7. Click Boost post on the post you want to boost.

Facebook fills in the ad with your post’s images and text. Complete the settings below and click Publish. Meta notes that some fields may be missing, depending on the post.

Boost from Meta Business Suite

Business Suite lets you boost a post or a reel and schedule the boost. On a computer, open Meta Business Suite, click Content on the left and make sure you’re viewing Posts & reels. Click Published or Scheduled, select the post and click Boost.

The goal may start on Automatic, which lets Meta pick it from your past activity. Click Change to choose another. Then set a start date and time, and the number of days or an end date. Or choose Run this ad continuously to keep it running until you pause it. To schedule it, use the option next to Publish and choose Schedule. Scheduled ads appear under Ads on the left.

You can also start from Ads: click Create ad at the top right, then Boost content, and Boost or Boost reel on the post. If you cancel a boost, your original post is not deleted.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “Boost a post or reel in Meta Business Suite on desktop”.

Boost a post your Page is tagged in

When a creator tags your Page, you can boost that post only if the creator lets brands boost their posts. Go to your Page and click Meta Business Suite in the left menu, then Insights. Open the Content tab and click Boost on the post. People see the creator as the author, and your brand appears below Why am I seeing this ad? If the creator doesn’t allow it, you won’t see Boost.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “Boost posts your Page is tagged in”.

Edit, pause or delete a boosted post

All three start in Ad Center, in the left menu of your Page: Meta’s boosting steps call the same place Ads center. You may need to click See all to find the post.

  • Edit. Click More options on the boosted post, then Edit ad. You can change the audience, the end date, the lifetime budget and the payment method, then click Save changes. The text, images and video can’t change once the ad is reviewed and published: create a new post and boost it instead.
  • Pause. Click the three dots on the active boost, choose Pause ad and click Confirm. Its status changes to Paused, and Resume ad in the same menu turns it back on.
  • Delete. Click View results, then Options at the top right, Delete ad and Confirm. The ad ends immediately and its results are no longer available. After that, you can boost the post again.

On a phone, pause the boost before you delete it. The Facebook app on an iPhone can’t edit an ad: use facebook.com in a computer or phone browser.

See how the boost is doing

From your Page, go to Ad Center. Your boost is under Recent Ads: click View results on it to open its numbers. The boost carries the name of its goal: with Get more engagement, for example, it shows as Post engagements. What Meta counts depends on the goal:

  • Get more messages: messaging conversations started.
  • Get more website visitors: link clicks.
  • Get more calls: link clicks, which here count clicks on the Call Now button.
  • Get more leads: leads from forms and Messenger, plus leads outside Meta tracked by the Meta Business Tools you connected.
  • Get more post engagements and Get more video views exist only for boosted posts, not for new ads made from your Page.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “View results for boosted posts” and “Metrics for boosted posts and ads created from your Facebook Page”.

Why a post can’t be boosted

When a post can’t be boosted, it shows Boost unavailable. Hover over it to read the reason. These are the posts Meta lists:

  • Profile pictures, which you can upload again as a new post and boost, and cover photos.
  • Drafts, until you publish them on your Page.
  • Posts with an app install button.
  • Albums. Posts with many images or a mix of images and videos may not qualify either: boost one image or video in a new post, or use a carousel or collection ad.
  • Live videos, unless the Page is verified. Scheduled live videos can’t be boosted for now.
  • Some reels: those with copyrighted music, GIFs, interactive stickers or face or camera effects, remixes of someone else’s reel and reels posted to a group.
  • Shared posts. Create a new post with your own content and boost that one.

Other reasons come from the Page or the account, such as a Page that isn’t published, a disabled ad account or no permission to advertise.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “Troubleshoot posts that can’t be boosted on your Facebook Page” and “Types of posts that can’t be boosted on your Facebook Page”.

Boosting from an iPhone or iPad

If you boost from an iPhone or iPad with the Facebook app, the payment goes through Apple’s App Store. Since February 2024 that can add Apple’s service fee, which is 30% of what you pay for the ad, not counting taxes and local fees. The fee goes to Apple, not to Meta. Meta gives three ways around it:

  • Boost on facebook.com, from a computer or your phone’s browser. It has the same features as the app.
  • Add funds to your ad account’s prepaid balance in the payment settings on facebook.com, and use them to boost in the app.
  • Boost from Meta Business Suite, or create the ad in Ads Manager.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “Avoid the Apple service fee when boosting Facebook ads”.

When Ads Manager fits better

Meta calls boosting the simplest way to get a post in front of more people. Still, a boost has fewer customization and targeting options than an ad made in Ads Manager. Ads Manager adds more placements, carousel ads and audiences such as lookalikes. Meta also notes that campaign creation, budget settings and performance metrics are only available there. Our guide on how to run Facebook ads walks through it, and the one on Instagram ads covers boosting from Instagram.

From Meta’s Business Help Center, “The difference between boosted posts and Meta ads”.

Before you click Publish

  • You are boosting from the business Page, with access that lets you advertise.
  • The goal matches what you want: messages, calls, website visits or leads.
  • Special Ad Category is on if the ad is about financial products or services, employment, housing, social issues, elections or politics.
  • The end date and the daily budget are the ones you meant.
  • You chose whether the ad also runs on Instagram.
  • On an iPhone, you boost on facebook.com or with funds you added there.

RememberBoost from your Page’s Ads center or from Meta Business Suite, set the goal, audience, duration and budget, and publish. Edit, pause or delete the boost from the same Ads center. When a post shows Boost unavailable, hover over it to see why.

A boost is the quick way to promote a post. If you want campaigns built in Ads Manager, see our Meta Ads service.

Quick answers about boosting a Facebook post

Is a boosted post an ad?

Yes. Boosting turns a post from your Page into an ad, and Meta treats it as one: it needs a budget, it goes through review and your bill lists it as an ad. If you cancel the boost, the original post stays on your Page.

Why does my post say Boost unavailable?

Hover over Boost unavailable on the post to read the reason. Usually the post is a type that can’t be boosted, such as a profile picture, an album, a shared post or a draft. Other times it’s the account, such as a disabled ad account or missing permission to advertise.

Can I change a boosted post after it starts?

You can change the audience, the end date, the lifetime budget and the payment method in Ad Center, with More options and then Edit ad. The text, images and video can’t change once the ad is reviewed and published. For that, create a new post and boost it.

How do I stop a boosted post?

Pause it in Ad Center: click the three dots on the boost, choose Pause ad and confirm. Resume ad turns it back on. To end it for good, delete the ad from View results and then Options. Its results are no longer available after that.

Can a boosted Facebook post also show on Instagram?

Yes. In the placements of the boost you can choose whether it also runs on Instagram, besides the Facebook Feed on mobile and desktop. To boost a post you published on Instagram, start from your Instagram account: our Instagram ads guide covers the steps.
