Short answer: Google suspends a Google Ads account for policy or Terms and Conditions violations, billing problems, signs of unauthorized access or a wrong age on the Google Account. The notice at the top of the account names the reason. If you think it is a mistake, appeal from that notice with an honest, detailed explanation.

Why Google suspends accounts

Google says an account may be suspended when it finds violations of its policies or its Terms and Conditions. For repeat violations it sends a warning at least 7 days before the suspension, explaining the problem and how to comply.

Egregious violations are different. Google describes them as so serious that they are unlawful or cause significant harm, and it suspends those accounts immediately without warning. After an egregious violation, you won’t be allowed to advertise with Google again.

Reason What Google looks at What to do
Policy violations Repeat or egregious breaches of the policies or Terms and Conditions Fix what the notice names, then appeal if it was a mistake
Billing and payment Unpaid balance, chargebacks, suspicious payments, promotional code abuse Verify the payment method when Google asks
Account security Someone else trying to get into the account Report it with Google’s form and secure the account

Billing and payment suspensions

On billing, Google names an unpaid balance or doubts about future payments, and suspicious payment activity. It also names a chargeback on a legitimate Google Ads charge, and promotional code abuse, such as using more than one code on an account.

Sometimes the account is only paused, not suspended, and an admin must confirm the payment method or make a small payment. In billing suspensions, Google may ask you to verify your payment method within 30 days before it reviews the appeal.

Related accounts are suspended too: those that share the email or payment method, or are linked to the same manager account. Our manager account guide covers how those links work.

Security and age

If Google detects that an unauthorized user is trying to get into your account, it suspends it temporarily to protect you from unauthorized charges. If you suspect it, Google asks you to tell it through its form.

Google also suspends accounts that break the age requirements of Google Accounts. When you create a Google Account, give your own age, not the age of your business.

How the appeal works

Select Contact Us in the notification at the top of your account to open the appeal form. While you fill it in, Google shows policy details that explain the suspension. Some advertisers must first complete advertiser verification.

Google emails you the outcome, and you can appeal again if it is rejected. It reinstates accounts only in compelling circumstances, such as a mistake, so be thorough, accurate and honest. Send one appeal at a time, and a separate one for each suspended account.

The Meta side works differently; our guide to a disabled Facebook ad account covers it. A suspended Business Profile is another matter, covered in our Business Profile suspension guide.

What to do when your account is suspended

  1. Read the notification at the top of your account to see the reason.
  2. If it is billing, verify the payment method or pay the balance as Google asks.
  3. If you suspect someone else got in, report it with Google’s form and secure your sign-in.
  4. Fix the policy problem on your ads and your website before you appeal.
  5. Complete advertiser verification if Google asks for it.
  6. Open Contact Us in the notification and write an honest, detailed appeal.
  7. Wait for the email with the outcome, and send one appeal at a time.

Before you send the appeal

  • You know which reason the notice names.
  • Your ads and website now meet the policy involved.
  • The payment method is verified, if Google asked.
  • The account’s Google Account shows your own age.
  • Related accounts meet Google’s policies too.
  • Your explanation is complete, accurate and honest.

RememberRead the reason first, fix it, then appeal once with the full story. Google reinstates accounts only in compelling cases, such as a mistake.

If you want someone to review the account with you, our Google Ads service does it in accounts that stay in your name. Our guide to hiring a Google Ads expert covers what to ask first. You can reach us on WhatsApp or through the form.

Quick answers about suspended Google Ads accounts

Why was my Google Ads account suspended?

Google lists policy or Terms and Conditions violations, billing and payment problems, signs that someone else got into the account, and the age on the Google Account. The notice at the top of your account names the reason.

Does Google warn before suspending an account?

For repeat violations, yes: Google says it sends a warning at least 7 days before the suspension. For egregious violations, the ones it treats as unlawful or seriously harmful, the account is suspended at once without warning.

How do I appeal a Google Ads suspension?

Select Contact Us in the notification at the top of your account and fill in the appeal form. Google emails you the outcome, and if the appeal is rejected you can appeal again the same way.

Can I appeal more than once at the same time?

Send one appeal at a time. Google may not process too many appeals for the same suspension, and if it sees the appeals function misused it can stop processing some of them for 7 days.

Will my other accounts be affected?

They can be. In billing and payment suspensions, Google says related accounts are suspended too, such as accounts that share the email, the payment method or the manager account. Appeal each suspended account separately.
