Short answer: On TikTok, a business account is now a Verified Business Account. You switch in Settings and privacy, under Account and Business verification, by uploading your business license and confirming your identity. TikTok says the review typically takes 1 to 5 business days.

Account types on TikTok

TikTok offers a General TikTok Account, a Verified Business Account and an Organization Account. It says anyone whose main goal on TikTok is to promote a business, whether a product or a service, should use a Verified Business Account.

General TikTok Account Most people and creators General library and Commercial Music Library Profile website link from 1,000 followers

Business verification isn’t the blue check mark. TikTok keeps that badge for high-profile accounts such as celebrities and major brands, and says accounts of all types and sizes can apply for business verification.

How to verify your business on TikTok

  1. In the TikTok app, open your profile and tap the Menu icon in the top right corner.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy, then Account, and choose Business verification.
  3. Review and accept the terms and conditions, then tap Get started.
  4. Select your business’s country or region, add your phone, website and industry if you want, and tap Next.
  5. Upload your business verification document.
  6. Enter your legal business name and business license ID exactly as they appear on the document.
  7. Choose SMS or Voice Call to verify your identity and tap Submit.

TikTok then reviews the application, which typically takes 1 to 5 business days. You get an in-app notification and a confirmation email at the address tied to your TikTok account. Your company name and category are added to your Business Profile.

What you need before you start

Business verification is only available to users 18 and older. You need a valid business license that matches the region where the business operates, and TikTok may ask for more documents depending on your country.

Verification is available in a list of markets that includes the United States. You can check the status of your application at any time on the Business verification page.

What a Verified Business Account gives you

TikTok lists analytics, including conversion analytics, and lead tools such as automatic lead collection from messages. It adds links to your website or app on videos and on your profile, a public business profile and audience geo-targeting. It adds that features can change and some depend on your market.

The Business Suite gathers tools such as the analytics dashboard and the leads manager, in the app or in a web browser. To see in GA4 how many visits your profile link brings, tag it with UTM parameters, as our guide to UTM parameters explains.

If you sell regulated goods or services

Only Verified Business Accounts can post content featuring regulated goods and services, such as alcohol, financial services or prescription medicines. Your business must operate in an approved industry and region, and the content reaches only age-appropriate audiences in the market where it was posted. TikTok may also require permission first.

Music for a business account

TikTok says businesses can’t use the general music library for commercial use. They should use the Commercial Music Library, a pre-cleared library of 1 million songs, for organic content, video ads and branded content.

If you use original sounds from other users or other licensed sounds, TikTok suggests asking your legal team first, so you know you have the right license.

How to keep the verification

After the switch, the account still has to follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines. If TikTok’s systems detect violations, the account can enter a re-verification period without the features of a Verified Business Account. An account verified by hand then needs a 30-day trial with no violations.

TikTok also advises against switching back and forth to a General TikTok Account, because the verification isn’t saved and you would verify again. On Instagram the matching step is a professional account, which our guide to setting up an Instagram business account covers.

What to check on your business account

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have a valid business license from the region where you operate.
  • Your legal business name and license ID match the document.
  • Your business videos use the Commercial Music Library.
  • Your profile link carries UTM parameters.
  • You won’t switch back to a General TikTok Account.

RememberOn TikTok, a business account means a Verified Business Account. Have your business license ready, use the Commercial Music Library, and follow the Community Guidelines to keep the verification.
