Five boroughs and New Jersey

SEO in New York-Newark where customers search by borough.

“Dentist brooklyn” and “dentist bronx” get 4,400 searches a month each; “dentist new york” gets 1,000. Here the borough, and sometimes the neighborhood, is the place name that counts, and every borough is a different market.

Boroughs

Five boroughs, five different markets

Spanish at home goes from 45.3% in the Bronx to 11.6% on Staten Island, and the largest Hispanic origin changes with the borough. The trades move too: Queens has 501 general auto repair shops and Manhattan 63.

Spanish searches follow the boroughs as well. Of all “near me” searches for a dentist, the Bronx types 13.9% in Spanish; Manhattan, 3.8%.

Queens

Manhattan

Brooklyn

New Jersey

Across the Hudson, other cities with their own searches

In Hudson County, home to Jersey City, Hoboken and Bayonne, 35.0% of residents speak Spanish at home, and only 41.6% speak English only. In Essex County, around Newark, the largest Hispanic origin is Ecuadorian.

The searches carry the city names. A business that serves both sides of the river needs a page for each side, with its own facts.

Hoboken

restaurants 27,100 · hair salon 1,600 · dentist 1,300

Jersey City

restaurants 22,200 · hair salon 1,900 · plumber 880

Bayonne

Paterson

Newark

Spanish

The city’s Spanish speakers, in three figures

  • 1,808,138New Yorkers speak Spanish at home, 22.5% of residents 5 and older
  • 27.3%of the city’s Hispanic residents have Dominican roots, and 24.1% Puerto Rican
  • 28.5%of the city’s Spanish-speaking households have limited English, against 19.8% nationally

In more than one in four Spanish-speaking homes here, nobody aged 14 or older speaks English very well. A business that can serve them in Spanish should say so on its profile and its pages.

We write in English, Spanish or both, at the same price: pages, posts and replies to reviews. The Spanish version names the borough too, the way people search.

Google Business Profile

A coworking desk is not an address on Google

Google’s guidelines allow an office in a coworking space only when three things are true. A virtual office, a mailing address you do not work from, never qualifies.

If you visit your customers instead, hide the address and list the boroughs you serve as your service area.

Clear signage
Your business name visible at the coworking office
Customers received
Customers come to that office during your business hours
Your own staff
Someone from your business is there during those hours

Questions

Asked in New York and New Jersey

How much does SEO cost per month in New York City?

Our first plan, Starter, runs $1,500.00 monthly per location, without a setup fee or a minimum term. Growth and Pro are priced higher. Sales tax is not included; where Florida applies it, it goes on the invoice. Ads work differently: advertisers in the city bid $7.41 to $51.33 per click to top “lawyer near me”, Keyword Planner shows, while map visits are free.

Can I use a coworking space for my Google Business Profile?

Only if the office has clear signage, receives customers during your hours and has your own staff there during those hours. A virtual office or a mailing address you do not work from cannot hold a profile.

Do I need a page for each borough?

Only for the boroughs you serve and can say something true about. Brooklyn and the Bronx each draw 4,400 dentist searches a month under their own names, and Queens 2,400. Language and competition change from one borough to the next.

Does New Jersey need its own pages?

If you serve it, yes. Jersey City alone brings 1,900 hair salon searches a month and Hoboken 1,300 for a dentist. In Hudson County, 35.0% of residents speak Spanish at home. Owners search for it too: “seo company new jersey” gets 720 searches a month.
