Short answer: When Meta disables or restricts an ad account, the reason and the next step are in Meta Business Support Home. Follow its What you can do section, where Meta may ask you to confirm your identity, complete verification, secure the account or request a review. Reviews usually take 48 hours, and the decision is final.
What a restriction can mean
Meta restricts advertisers who go against its policies and standards, or when it sees unusual or high-risk activity. A restriction can limit how much you spend per day or lower your payment threshold.
It can also remove some payment or advertising features, or the ability to advertise on Meta at all. It can fall on a business portfolio, an ad account, a Page or a person’s profile. When an ad account is restricted, its ads and some of its advertising assets are disabled.
If one person is restricted, ad accounts where they are the only user may be disabled too, while other members of the portfolio may still advertise. Our guide to Facebook Business Manager explains how a portfolio holds those assets.
Why Meta restricts accounts
Meta restricts accounts that don’t follow its Community Standards, Advertising Standards, Commerce Policies or other terms. It also acts when a business portfolio may have been hacked, or when its two-factor authentication requirements aren’t met.
Unusual payment or account activity, or high rates of failed or disputed payments, can lead to restrictions too. Until it is sure an advertiser follows its policies, Meta may limit daily spend, billing or payment features.
Meta’s common examples of violations include ads that severely or repeatedly break the Advertising Standards, and attempts to evade its review. Opening new ad accounts to repeat violations after Meta disabled the first ones counts as evading.
Your account status in Business Support Home
When an ad is rejected, Meta may add a warning to the account, and the status shows at the top of Ads Manager or in Business Support Home:
| Status | What Meta means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy | No warnings, but more ad rejections could lead to warnings or a restriction | None needed |
| Needs attention | Some ads did not follow the Advertising Standards | Request a review of the rejected ads behind the warning |
| Restricted | Repeated or egregious violations; you can’t run ads until it is resolved | Follow What you can do and request a review |

How to request a review
- On a computer, open Meta Business Support Home.
- Select Account status overview in the left menu, then the restricted account.
- In the What you can do section, follow the steps Meta recommends.
- If Meta asks, confirm your identity or complete verification.
- If the account may have been hacked, secure it first.
- Select Request review and complete the steps on screen. You need to be an admin on the account.
- Wait for Meta’s answer, usually within 48 hours, and don’t open a new account in the meantime.
What not to do while you wait
Don’t create a new ad account to keep running the same ads. Meta treats that as evading enforcement and may restrict the business portfolio, the ad account, the Page or the person.
Don’t count on unlimited appeals either. Meta limits the number of reviews you can request, and once a review is completed, its decision is final. Asking for another review won’t hurt your standing, Meta says.
If an ad account disabled for a policy violation stays ineligible for reinstatement for 6 months, unused prepaid services may be forfeited where the law allows. After that, the account can’t be reinstated.
Before you request a review
- You opened Business Support Home on a computer.
- You know which asset is restricted: portfolio, ad account, Page or profile.
- You read the reason and the What you can do section.
- Every person with access uses two-factor authentication.
- You checked your recent ads against Meta’s Advertising Standards.
- Nobody opened a new ad account to get around the restriction.
RememberStart in Business Support Home, do what Meta asks there, and never open a new account to get around a restriction.

Quick answers about disabled Facebook ad accounts
How long does Meta take to review a restricted ad account?
Meta says it typically completes the review in 48 hours, although it may take longer in some cases. If the restrictions should apply, they stay and the account is blocked; if not, Meta removes them and reinstates the account.
Can I request more than one review?
Meta limits how many times you can request an advertising restriction review, and once a review is completed, the decision is final. Meta adds that requesting another review won’t hurt your standing with the company.
Should I open a new ad account instead?
No. Meta treats creating new ad accounts to repeat violations after it disabled the first ones as evading enforcement. That can bring restrictions on the business portfolio, the ad account, the Page or the person.
What does Needs attention mean?
Some of your ads have not followed Meta’s Advertising Standards, and more violations may lead to a restriction. You can request a review of the rejected ads that may have led to the warning.
What happens if a disabled account is never reinstated?
If an ad account disabled for a policy violation stays ineligible for reinstatement for 6 months, Meta says unused prepaid services may be forfeited where the law allows. After that, the account can’t be reinstated.
