Short answer: Meta Advantage+ is the set of switches that let Meta’s AI run parts of a campaign for you: who sees your ads, where they run, how your images and copy are shown and, with an Advantage+ campaign, most of the build. Test it against your own setup and judge it by cost per result.

What Meta Advantage+ is

In Meta’s words, Advantage+ is a suite of AI products that tunes campaigns in real time and puts each ad in front of the people most likely to act. It isn’t one setting: each part takes over one decision you would otherwise make yourself.

You can use one part inside a normal campaign, or hand most of the work to an Advantage+ campaign. Our guide to running Facebook ads shows where each switch sits when you build a campaign.

What each part of Advantage+ automates

Part What it automates Meta’s advice
Advantage+ campaigns AI across many steps of the campaign For the sales, leads and app promotion objectives
Advantage+ audience Picks who sees the ads for you Test it first; leave it out of retargeting
Advantage+ placements Picks where the ads run across Meta’s apps With the highest volume bid strategy
Advantage+ creative Adjusts images, videos and text to what people engage with Some enhancements are on by default; you can turn them off

Built from four Meta help pages read on November 4, 2026.

Meta suggests a full Advantage+ campaign when the objective is sales, leads or app promotion. If you want the AI to find people but still share what you know about your customers, Meta calls Advantage+ audience an effective alternative.

What Meta reports for Advantage+ audience

Meta puts a number on what the audience switch saves. Meta says campaigns with it on can reach a cost per result 14.8% lower under Awareness. The figure is 9.7% under Traffic, Engagement and Leads, and 7.2% under Sales and App promotion.

Treat those as Meta’s own results, not a forecast for your account. The AI leans on what your tracking records, so set that up first with our Meta Pixel and Conversions API guide.

How the audience switch picks people, and when a custom or lookalike audience is the better choice, is in our Facebook ad targeting guide.

Why a placement that costs more can still pay off

Meta recommends Advantage+ placements if you use the highest volume bid strategy. Its delivery system aims for the most results at the lowest average cost overall, not the lowest average cost in each placement.

Meta’s example has 11 chances to show an ad, spread over Facebook, Instagram and Meta Audience Network, and a fixed budget. With all three placements, the ad set gets 9 results.

Turning off Instagram, the placement with the highest cost per result, leaves 8 results for almost the same budget, and each one costs more on average. A placement with a higher average cost isn’t necessarily inefficient.

Our Facebook ad sizes guide lists the image and video sizes for each placement.

Advantage+ creative and generative AI

When you turn on Advantage+ creative, Meta optimizes your images and videos into versions your audience is more likely to interact with. It may adjust the media and text you upload while keeping the core message of your campaign.

A few enhancements start switched on, and each one can be switched off whenever you want. Several use generative AI, such as background generation, image generation, text generation and video subtitles.

Ad images created or significantly edited with some of these features may carry an AI info label next to the Ad label. Meta says some industries, special ad categories and countries may not have immediate access to all generative AI features.

How to set up Advantage+ in your campaigns

  1. Choose your objective. For sales, leads or app promotion, Meta suggests a full Advantage+ campaign.
  2. Check that your Meta Pixel records conversions, because Advantage+ audience learns from them.
  3. Split-test the automatic audience against targeting you set up yourself.
  4. For retargeting, stay with the people you chose; Meta advises against the automatic audience there.
  5. Leave Advantage+ placements on if you use the highest volume bid strategy.
  6. Judge cost per result across all placements together, not one by one.
  7. Review each Advantage+ creative enhancement and turn off the ones that don’t fit your brand.

How Advantage+ is set in our own ad accounts

We read the settings of the ad sets in our two Meta ad accounts on November 4, 2026. There are 25, and all of them aim for conversations: 24 send people to WhatsApp and 1 to Instagram Direct.

Advantage+ placements is on in 21 of the 25, so Meta picks where those ads run. Advantage+ audience is on in 9; the other 16 use an audience we set ourselves.

Before you leave Advantage+ on

  • Your pixel records the conversions you care about.
  • You tested Advantage+ audience against your own.
  • Retargeting keeps an audience you define.
  • You judge placements by their combined cost.
  • You reviewed every creative enhancement.
  • Your industry has the AI features you plan to use.

RememberAdvantage+ hands decisions to Meta’s AI. Test it against your own setup and judge it by the cost per result of the whole ad set.

Quick answers about Meta Advantage+

What is Advantage Plus on Meta?

Advantage+ is Meta’s label for the jobs its AI can take over in a campaign: choosing people, choosing where ads run, tuning your images and copy and, with an Advantage+ campaign, most of the build. Each part can be switched on by itself or together.

Is Advantage+ audience better than my own targeting?

Meta says it can bring a cost per result between 7.2% and 14.8% lower, by objective. It still suggests testing it first on nearly any campaign, and keeping it out of retargeting, where you already know the people you want back.

Should I turn off a placement that costs more?

Not for that reason alone. Meta’s system looks for the lowest average cost across all placements together. Removing the most expensive one can leave you with fewer results for almost the same budget, as Meta’s own example shows.

Does Advantage+ creative change my ads?

It can. Meta may adjust the images, videos and text you upload while keeping the core message of the campaign, and some enhancements are on by default. Review them in Ads Manager and turn off the ones you don’t want.

Can every business use the generative AI features?

Not yet. Meta says some advertisers may wait for them. Regulated fields such as finance and pharma or health, special categories like housing, jobs, credit and politics, and some countries may not get every generative feature right away.
