Short answer: Sign in to your Google account, find the place on Google Maps, open its reviews and tap the stars. Then describe your own visit. Reviews are public: Google shows them with the name on your profile, and you can’t post one anonymously.

On a phone

  1. Open the Google Maps app and sign in to your Google account.
  2. Search for the place, or tap it on the map.
  3. If several locations show up, tap the one you visited.
  4. At the bottom, tap the place’s name or address.
  5. At the top, tap Reviews, then tap the five empty stars.
  6. Tap the stars to score the place, and write under “Share more about your experience”.
  7. If questions show up, choose the details that fit your visit.

Your review, score and details show up in Google Maps and on your profile until you take them down. Google lists the same steps for Android and for iPhone.

From Google Maps Help, “Add, edit, or delete Google Maps reviews & ratings”, Android and iPhone versions, read November 2, 2026.

On a computer

Sign in to Google Maps and search for the place. On the left, scroll and click Write a review, then click the stars to score it. You can also write a review.

On a computer, to… Where to click
Write a review Search for the place, then Write a review on the left
Find your reviews Menu, Your contributions, Reviews
Edit or delete one In your reviews, More next to it, then Edit review or Delete review
Share one Share, at the bottom of the review
Read a place’s reviews The number of reviews, next to the rating

From Google Maps Help, computer version.

Visible to everyone

Anyone can find what you add. Next to your review, people can see the name on your About me page and the other reviews you wrote.

They can also see the other photos and videos you added to Google Maps, with the location info attached to them.

Reasons Google removes reviews

Google moderates reviews and removes the ones that break its content policy, such as spam or inappropriate content. It doesn’t reinstate reviews removed for policy violations.

Its policy calls these fake engagement: content not based on a real experience, reviews paid for directly or in kind, and content posted from several accounts by one person.

Businesses can’t offer payment, discounts or free goods or services for a review. Reviewers can’t add phone numbers, email addresses or links, or someone else’s personal details without consent.

From the Maps User Generated Content Policy, “Prohibited & restricted content”.

What our own review link does

On November 2, 2026, we opened our own review link in a browser that wasn’t signed in to Google. It redirected twice and opened our profile on Google Maps.

The page showed the reviews and a Write a review button. Google’s steps start with signing in, so a customer who isn’t signed in has to sign in before posting.

If you own a business and want your own link, our guide to getting more Google reviews shows where to find it.

Before you post

  • You’re signed in to the account whose name you want shown.
  • You picked the right location of the business.
  • The review describes your own visit.
  • No phone numbers, email addresses or links in the text.
  • No personal details about other people.
  • Nobody paid or rewarded you for it.

RememberSign in, find the place, tap the stars and write what you saw yourself. Google shows your name with it, and you can edit or delete it later.

Quick answers about Google reviews

Do I need a Google account to leave a review?

Yes. Google’s steps start with signing in, and you can’t add an anonymous review. The review shows the name on your About me page, and anyone can find it.

Can I edit or delete my Google review?

Yes. On a computer, open Google Maps, go to Menu, Your contributions and Reviews, then click More next to the review. After an edit, the review shows the date of the last edit.

Why did my Google review disappear?

Google moderates reviews and removes the ones that break its content policy, such as spam or inappropriate content. It doesn’t reinstate reviews removed for policy violations.

Can a business give me a discount for a review?

No. Google doesn’t allow merchants or users to offer incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods and services for a review. The same rule covers paying someone to change or remove a negative review.

Can I put a phone number or a link in my review?

No. Google’s policy bans email addresses, phone numbers, social media links and links to other websites in user reviews, along with other promotional content. Write about the visit itself.
